Kate O'Berg sensei

Hello! My name is Kate O'Berg. I am from Pendleton, Oregon. Minamisoma's sister city. I first came to Minamisoma in 2006 as an exchange student with the Sister City exchange. It was very hard to leave this beautiful town and wanted to come back very badly.

I was able to come back to Minamisoma in May of 2011 to volunteer after the tsunami. I was so happy to see my old host family and friends. It was very interesting for me to know what Minamisoma was like before the tsunami and after. I still feel that the city is just as beautiful and the people are even more amazing with everything that they have been through. Till this day, I am constantly amazed by the generosity of everyone. After the second time of coming to Minamisoma, it was again very hard to leave and I promised my friends that I would come back someday.

I soon came back in December of 2011! I'm now an English teacher at Haramachi 1st and 2nd Junior High Schools and a Cultural Ambassador between Minamisoma and Pendleton. I love teaching! Especially in Minamisoma! I was an Art teacher in Pendleton and really enjoyed working with students. I'm looking forward to getting to know and work with the students here.

Thank you for letting me be a part of Minamisoma!
